Having taken online lessons under Harp Room for the past few years, It’s been an eye-opening experience to find a space that allows for musical growth and one that nurtures that passion for harp-playing. Though I was conscious at first of the potential limits in a virtual format, I quickly found how the system of support and mutual attentiveness during meetings were able to maximize the layout’s potential. Even through a screen, each lesson was clear, comprehensive, and above all enjoyable. I believe it was the feeling of accessibility these factors created that helped me progress as a harpist and musician, making the progressively more complicated pieces, techniques, and musical concepts less intimidating and more approachable. Overall, my experience as an online student of Harp Room has been defined by the encouragement that comes in such an environment and all the ways one can continuously evolve their musicality within it.
I took lessons in harp room from ages 9 to 12 and I will forever be grateful to teacher Jo Ann and Tito Hans for providing such a safe space and community to grow as a musician. Harp room provided us with so much opportunities and experiences to cherish, it truly became a second home ❤️❤️
I spent a few years as a student at HarpRoom and it was genuinely a rewarding place to learn the harp. Learning wasn’t hard but it wasn’t too easy either since the harp is a nuanced instrument but HarpRoom provided and served a structured and encouraging environment that made my journey worthwhile. My teacher, Teacher Jo-Ann, was attentive and very patient with me helping me build a solid technique and posture. Overtime, I noticed growth in playing the harp and not only that but also in understanding and reading music deeply. It also surprised how I became confident in performing. One of the few highlights here were the recitals. We performed various pieces (classical or folk, etc.) and there was always something special in preparing a piece and performing it in front of an audience. There’s always thrill, excitement, and a sense of fulfillment. Every recital gives each student a moment (solo or as an ensemble). It’s a community that takes the harp seriously and shows care in everything they do.If you’re considering playing the harp, whether as a complete beginner or just returning, HarpRoom is definitely worth your time.
I started learning the harp because when I was younger, my mom would play it at night and I would immediately fall asleep to it's sound. I loved the sound of the instrument so much that I wanted to learn how to play it myself. So I went to the same harp school as my mom and there I met my harp teacher and her husband who both helped and guided me through learning the harp and even performing on recitals. Learning the harp was very fun in my opinion, no matter if the lesson was face to face or online. Mostly because my teacher was very kind and very good at explaining and teaching me songs and techniques in a way that it was fun to learn and not pressuring at all. My harp classmates were also very kind and it was so fun to play with them, which made my years studying at Harproom even more fun and memorable. I’m forever greatful for the guidance, encouragement, and happy memories I gained while learning the harp .
Learning the harp at The Harp Room has been a dream come true! As a beginner, I was initially intimidated by the instrument, but the culture here is so welcoming and encouraging. Ms. Jo-Ann Cerdenia has always patient with me making learning an otherwise challenging instrument feel approachable and fun. I had my first-ever recital here, my first gig and my first harp event with fellow harpist in a span of one year. I couldn’t be happier. Harp Room is an expert in teaching the art and technical aspects of the harp, while making learning feel enjoyable!I learned a lot!Life got very busy this lately but every time I get the opportunity, I squeeze in a lesson with Harp Room coz it’s always been such a fulfilling experience and every lesson is priceless. I’ve loved every minute of my experience here and feel so supported in my progress. Highly recommended for anyone interested in harp music and life in general!
I miss being in Harp Room, the round door was an iconic look and the environment is so cozy. I had one of the most unforgettable moments in my harp journey, when me, Angel and Micah competed in Singapore Harpfest. It was full of learning, new experiences and a friendship that last for years. I thank Maam Jo for her dedication in teaching us everything we needed to know about the harp as a beginner and still learning harpist. Congratulations, Harp Room, Ma’am Jo and sir Hans. More power and God bless.
I got my harp back in 2023, and I joined a band. I thought playing harp was just easy like playing piano, but I was wrong. That's where I look for a harp lessons that will help my skills improve. I found HarpRoom in 2024, started in January. Teacher Jo-ann was my harp teacher. She is so nice, to the point that whenever our schedules didn't match, we always find a way to catch up. Teacher Jo-ann helped me a lot. From tuning, recognizing the sound, the basics, the form and posture, and more. I had a great experience in HarpRoom. Looking forward for new lessons with Teacher Jo-ann.
There is a wise adage that goes: "The Teacher appears when the student is ready." As I entered the round doors of HarpRoom and met my harp teacher for the first time, I knew I was way beyond ready to be a harp student. HarpRoom’s experience, knowledge and skills in music and harp are exceptional. Evenmore so, their commitment to share the joy and techniques of the classical harp to Filipinos is admirable. They patiently teach me how to improve my sight reading of music and introduce me to many useful harp practice methods. I learn counting notes and am slowly getting used to playing with an annoying metronome harping beside me. They put emphasis on proper hand placement, full coordination when playing the harp, and cultivating focus when performing harp music. At my age, all these are quite uphill endeavors for me. But with the guidance and teaching at the HarpRoom, I value every lesson in playing the harp.
Learning the harp at the HarpRoom is God's answered prayer for me.
HarpRoom is able to stand out with their expertise, incredible talent, dedication, and love for the instrument. They push you to do your best, broaden your horizons and expand your comfort zone, all the while showing patience and kindness. They not only teach you technical details, but also the emotions and feelings needed to bring a song to life.
My teacher is a great mentor and an inspirational harpist. Without her and HarpRoom, I would not be the instrumentalist I am today. I am incredibly thankful to have them.
